March Madness

It is hot and I am thirsty.  My hair continues to fro.  But I will not deter from my destination.  March was long, long, long.  I continue to follow the stars that are leading me to Hawaii.  I have my trusty pig Marv who is on this journey with me.  He is not looking forward to Hawaii, because they eat a lot of pig there.  When he is naughty I call him bacon.

I also have with me my rusty but trustworthy sextant that has help navigate and follow the constellations that are leading me to the islands (I am studying constellations right now, guys).
Quiz question, do you know what a sextant is?  (NO Googling, Auntie).

I have logged 500 miles this month.  I haven't been doing better with my water.  I like to live on the edge of dehydration, but I am doing conditioning night.  To be fair, helping chase after the Evanator should catapult all the way passed the Hawaiian Islands.

Mom and Dad are tired but Mom is drinking more healthy drinks and lots more water and no dairy.  Her diet has earned her some miles.  :)  My parents get a combined 200 miles.

We are so close to Hawaii, we will be there by MAY!!!!

Gotta go play with the dolphins!

  1. Greetings fellow travelers. Auntie Rose & Auntie Drea have decided to finally join the journey. Forgive us for our absences but we have terrible excuses that aren't worthy of your time. We have committed anew and applaud the hard work you have put in thus far Gracie...you've really carried the family along until now but fret not for help is on the way. I will caution you to temper your excitement at first because it'll be hard to match the awesome miles you're logging monthly...our numbers won't start nearly as high but anything is better than nothing right :D

Aye, the salty air does us good. I'm glad you chose a well crafted and roomy boat for our voyage...it's nice to have plenty of space to enjoy the trip.

    MILLAS for Monday 5-1-17.
    Auntie Drea:
    1 mile(H20)
30 minutes of exercise ... not sure how many miles... 1/2?
4,251 steps / sorry to give you math :(
    Auntie Rose:
    1 mile(3MEALS)
    5,800 steps / ugh...more math :( :(

Well it's a small contribution but as I lay on the hammock staring up at the night sky, the boat gently rocking, waves dancing to and fro, I ponder. I think how fortunate I am to have an awesome family to share this journey with. What fun adventures we shall fancy upon! I grin in anticipation because I simply can't wait.

    1. Well done, Auntie! It is an honor to have you join me on my voyage. Let us venture forth into the unknown world of possibilities. I am very delighted with your miles even though I have to pay a visit to the realm of Mathematics. Even though this boat is very roomy and spacious, I would really like a break from the on going seas. A Hui Hou! (good bye in Hawaiian)

  2. From my high school poetry reading, I remember a line from my favorientation poem The Village Blacksmith by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. http://www.hwlongfellow.org/poems_poem.php?pid=38

Therefore I must glean that a sextant is someone who keeps track of time (and space?) and communicates this to the community.

    1. Very nice pulling up your English education! My mother would overjoyed. You are quite close in a general manor but most specifically, a sextant is an instrument with a graduated arc of 60 degrees and sighting mechanism, used for measuring the angular distances between objects and especially for taking altitudes in navigation. Can't wait for Hawaii! A Hui Hou! (good bye in Hawaiian) ;)

  3. Call me Mr. Peanut. Some months ago - never mind how long precisely - having been worn down by studying and lack of free time, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world.

So, I stowed away on a ship bound for the other side of the world, hidden among the barrels and chests in the storage deck. Alas, I have now been found and, before I am sent off the plank, I have this to share:

In the month of April, according to my fitbit, I achieved 120 miles. Hard to believe, being confined to such a small space in the storage deck.

The time at sea has also left me very parched. Knowing that water is the source of life, I have been diligent to use my desalinization machine to create 6 glasses of potable water per day. This gives me another 30 miles for the month, though I believe I need 12 per day to feel properly hydrated.

I had the good fortune to sneak out from my hiding space (undetected until today) and prepare 3 healthy meals in the ship's galley. On a few of the days, I had to settle for gruel and salt-cured fish, but still managed many healthy meals, worth another 20 miles toward my total.

Lastly, during the month, confined to the darkness of the storage deck, "whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul;...and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping [out onto the main deck], and methodically knocking people’s hats off—then, I account it high time to [immerse myself in opportunities for worship.]" To this end, I engaged in bible study and church on Sundays for a total of 7 more miles toward the journey.

In total, this brings me to 177 miles for the month.

Now that I have emerged, I also must thank Herman Melville for his inspiration, as well as Gracie for leading such a valiant effort in the family.
